Objective: To compare the result of treatment using platelet rich fibrin and bone graft  in intrabony defect cases.

Methods:  Pubmed and Wiley online searches were conducted to identify articles published in dental journals from January 2013 to December 2017 focusing on platelet rich fibrin and bone graft  in intrabony defect treatment. Manual searches of published full-text articles and related reviews were performed afterwards. There are 135 studies found, but only 4 studies met the inclusion criteria. 

Results: The initial database search produced 135 articles. All articles were selected for full-text review. A total 4 studies were selected for inclusion, with 107 patients as subjects. 

All of the studies showed the decreased of probing depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), intrabony defect (IBD) or radiograph defect depth (RDD)  after 9 months follow up. The differences between baseline and clinical outcome measurement showed that single treatment using bone graft is the best result.

Conclusion: single treatment using bone graft showed better result than other treatments, such as PRF or combination  PRF and bone graft.

Objective: This study reviewed such cases with oro- facial injuries as presented at the hospital for the period of seven years.

Material and Methods: The study sample size consists of a total of 22 patients who had various degrees of orofacial injuries were seen and managed during the period of study. Although some of the case were considered severe, there was no fatality recorded during the period under review. Some patients with soft tissues avulsion at any part of the body revealed jagged wound edges and, in some cases, the wounds were still bleeding at the time of presentation.

Results: A total of 22 patients of which 19 were males (86.36%) and 3 females (13.64%) were received and treated at the Oral and Maxillofacial department during the period under review. A gender ratio of male to female, 6.33 :1, was recorded. 14(63.64%) of the number had fracture of oro-facial bone.  The data were analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 (SPSS Inc, Chicago, IL).

Conclusion: Farm safety experts estimate that more than half of cow injuries can be prevented by using some type of personal protective equipment, depending on the work activity. Unfortunately, most herders in developing world does not have this protective equipment thereby increasing the risk or frequently sustaining injuries from cow attacks.

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the antibacterial activities of M. oleifera freeze dried extract on Staphylococcus aureus. 

Material and Methods: The antibacterial activities using two methods, microdilution method and agar diffusion method. The minimum inhibitory concentration is determined. The measurement of absorbance in microdilution method using a spectrophotometer at length wave 590 nm. The inhibition zone is measured using scalimeter. 

Results: The results showed both microdilution method and agar diffusion method present the inhibition activity of M. oleifera freeze dried extract on staphylococcus aureus. 

Conclusion: The finding confirmed M. oleifera freeze dried extract as the promising antibacterial natural agent, particularly on inhibiting S. aureus strain.  

Objective: This study aims to determine the difference in oral hygiene status in patients with cleft lip and palate pre operative and post operative in takalar regency. The sample in this study were patients with cleft lip and palate preoperative and postoperative with a total sample of 20 people consisting of 10 people for the preoperative group and 10 people for the postoperative group.

Material and Methods: This study is observational analytic and the design of this study is Cross Sectional Study. Determination of samples was done by quota sampling. Assessment of oral hygiene status was obtained from OHI-S scores. The data obtained were tested with chi-square test and t-test by SPSS.

Results: In the group of patients with cleft lip and palate preoperative had an average oral hygiene status of 2.69 while the postoperative group was 2.04 with p-value of 0.062 (> 0.05). 

Conclusion: There was no difference in the status of oral hygiene in patients with cleft lip and palate preoperative and postoperative in Takalar regency.

Objective: To determine the increase of fibroblast cell number in the rat (Rattus norvegicus) gingival wound after the application of moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam) fruit oil.

Material and Methods: This study was an experimental post-test control group design using 18 male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) that was divided into three groups. The sample was previously incised with a length of 4 mm using scalpel 15. Group 1 was applied with moringa fruit oil, group 2 was given aspirin, and group 3 was given at 0.5% CMC. The application was carried out every 24 hours, then on the third and seventh day, the rats were euthanized for histological preparations and then observed under the electric microscope. The length of the lesion was measured on the first, third, and seventh days. The fibroblast was then observed by counting the number of fibroblast cells per field of view using an Olympus C-21 microscope with an Optilab Advances camera with a 40x, 100x magnification, and 400x. The data were processed and analyzed using the SPSS Version 21 program. This study used a t-test to see the differences between the treatment group and the control group, and the Least Significantly Difference (LSD) test was used to see the size of the difference.

Results: This study showed a significant increase in the number of fibroblasts in rat gingival mucosa on the third and seventh days

Conclusion: Moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam) fruit oil affects increasing the number of fibroblasts on the rat gingival mucosa (Rattus norvegicus). 

Objective: The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of the use of plastic wrapping on dental unit work desks on the number of bacterial colonies in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty of Dentistry USU.

Material and Methods: In this study, sampling was carried out on tooth extraction patients in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department by using 2 dental chair units where one of the dental unit work desks used plastic wrap and the other did not. Then examination of the number of bacterial colonies was carried out in Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science USU.

Results: Samples taken as many as 50 samples (25 pre-test samples and 25 post-test samples) in 5 different days showed a significant difference in the number of bacterial colonies (p<0.05).

Conclusion: This study showed that there was a significant decrease in the number of bacterial colonies in the dental unit work desks that used plastic wrap compared to those that do not.

Objective: To determine the phyto-response effect of the Kelor leaves ethanol extract (Moringa oleifera) in osteoblasts and osteoclasts cells of rat mandibular bones (Rattus norvegicus) in the atmosphere of fluorescent light histopathologically. 

Material and Methods: Manufacture of Kelor leaf ethanol extract by maceration method and ethanol 96%.  The 10-tailed mice are divided into 1 mouse-tails that are only exposed to light, 3-tailed mice positive groups given the drug vitamin D, 3-tails of negative group rats given aquades, and 3-tails of treatment given the leaf ethanol extract. The treatment of rats was carried out on the 0 day, 7th Day, 14th and 21st days, then dieutanasia using ether anesthesia and carried out the cutting of the mandibular bone using bone, fixation, decalcification to the calculation of cells osteoblasts and osteoclasts with a microscope (Olympus BX-51) 400X magnification. 

Results: There was a significant difference between the positive control group, the negatives and the treatment group that applied the Kelor leaf ethanol extract to the rat mandibular bone and exposed to light for 24 hours. The treatment group applied the Kelor leaf ethanol extract has the highest number of osteoblasts cells on day 28. 

Conclusion: The Kelor leaf ethanol extract is effective in stimulating the osteoblasts cells of the bones that have been exposed to light in the long term. The Kelor leaf ethanol extract can balance the bone growth cycle significantly over vitamin D.

Objective: This paper aimed to report the inferior alveolar nerve preservation in cases of monostotic fibrous dysplasia performed by hemimandibulectomy.

Methods: A 11-year-old boy was referred to Dr. Sardjito General Hospital with the complaint of having a lump at the lower back of the left jaw. Past medical history revealed that the patient fell and knocked a stone on the left jaw, at 8 years old. The patient was biopsied and diagnosed with monostotic fibrous dysplasia. From the result of the investigations conducted, the lesion had involved the left coronoid and condyle processes.

Results: The treatment performed for this case were hemimandibulectomy and reconstruction with installation of bridging plates to remove lesions, restore masticatory function and facial esthetics. Postoperative evaluation showed shape and jaw function was restored with no complaint of paresthesia.

Conclusion: Inferior alveolar nerve preservation was performed to minimize the symptoms of paresthesia as the patient was still young, the lesion was benign and had a low recurrence rate if it was taken cleanly.
